Driving around Kata and Karon
- The coast road from Karon over the hill to Kata and on to Kata Noi and the Karon Viewpoint is steep in places; take the bends slowly.
- The road from Kata to Chalong crosses the hills in about 15 minutes and is the quickest way to Phuket Town and the Big Buddha road.
- Patong is about 20 minutes north along the coast.
- Do not park at red-and-white kerbs near the beaches — it is not allowed and cars there get clamped.
Which car to take
For two people a Toyota Yaris Ativ is enough even on the hills. For a family, heavy luggage or a villa at the top of a steep drive, the MG5 has more power and the 7-seat Toyota Fortuner has the most ground clearance.
Delivery and return
Send the hotel name or the villa location. The ฿700 fee covers delivery; collecting the car at the end is another ฿700. Taking the car free at the airport and driving to Kata yourself takes about 70 minutes.
